What instructional delivery method will Cedar Tree Academy use?

Cedar Tree Academy will start the school year using 100% virtual instruction.

How do I know what my child’s schedule will be?

In the Hybrid model, students will come to school two (2) days and learn at home for three (3) days. In the Virtual model, students will learn at home for the week. Families will receive information letting you know what days your child will be in school, if applicable.

What changes should I expect to see at Cedar Tree Academy?

Parents/Visitors will not be allowed in the building to minimize contact
Daily Health Screenings including Temperature checks will take place before students enter the building
Students will enter the building at different access points
Dismissal will take place outside on the field

What steps have been taken to ensure that my child is safe?

All water fountains are touch free (use of a disposable paper cup or a refillable water bottle)  
All sinks and toilets are touch free
Hand sanitizing stations throughout the building.
Increased the frequency of disinfecting and sanitizing high traffic common surfaces such as door handles, stair rails, elevator buttons, etc.
Everyone in the building is required to wear a face covering and practice social distancing
Classroom sizes are limited to 12 individuals

Are the students required to wear a mask?

Yes. Students should arrive each day with their mask on.

Will technological devices be assigned to my child to be used when they are not at school?

All students will be assigned an electronic device. Cedar Tree will work with families to ensure connectivity.

Can my child bring a water bottle to school?

Yes, we strongly encourage all children to bring a small plastic water bottle daily, labeled with their name. Please note students are not required to have a water bottle. The school will provide disposable paper cups for the students to use.

Will my child share school supplies?

Cedar Tree Academy will provide every child with their own set of supplies that will be kept in their own container and left at school. Parents will need to purchase supplies for your child to use when they are not at school. (See school supply list on the CTA website)

Who will decide if/when Cedar Tree will be open/closed in response to COVID-19?

Cedar Tree Academy will follow the guidance of the DC Health Department, the Mayor’s Office and Deputy Mayor of Education.

What steps will Cedar Tree Academy take if a staff member, student, parent/guardian contracts COVID-19?

The DC Health Department will notify Cedar Tree that someone has tested positive. We will work with the health department to determine next steps which may include complete or partial closure of the school. Parents will be notified of the situation and the steps taken.

How do I enroll my child at Cedar Tree Academy?

You can begin the enrollment process by creating an account at My School DC, the common application for all D.C. public schools.

Who can attend Cedar Tree Academy?

Cedar Tree Academy is a free, open-enrollment, public school for all District of Columbia residents.

What is the age requirement for Cedar Tree Academy students?

PK3: Must be three by September 30th
PK4: Must be four by September 30th
K: Must be five by September 30th
1st: Must be six by September 30th

What happens if there are not enough available spaces to admit all students that apply to Cedar Tree?

Your child will be entered in a lottery that will determine the order in which seats are offered. Your child will receive preference in the lottery if they have a sibling who is currently enrolled at Cedar Tree. Students who apply for a seat after the lottery takes place will be added to the wait list on a first-come-first-served basis. To increase your child’s probability of attending Cedar Tree, we recommend ranking Cedar Tree as your number 1 choice.

What documentation is required once my child is offered a seat at Cedar Tree Academy?

All students enrolled in public schools in Washington, D.C. must provide proof of D.C. residency. To provide proof of residency, you will need to complete a DC Residency Verification Form and present documents verifying your home address. If my child is returning to Cedar Tree, what documents must I provide during the re-enrollment process?

To re-enroll your child at Cedar Tree, you will need to provide proof of DC residency, a signed residency verification form (which will be completed at Cedar Tree), and oral and physical health certificates for your child.

Cedar Tree Academy offers ongoing professional development for all our staff. This includes coaching from our instructional team as well as outside vendors. We encourage in-house and outside professional development.
