DC CAPE

DC implemented a general statewide assessment system, which includes assessments in English language arts/literacy (ELA), mathematics, and science. The District of Columbia Comprehensive Assessments of Progress in Education (DC CAPE) https://osse.dc.gov/dccape  include the DC ELA assessment (DC ELA), the DC Math assessment (DC Math), and the DC Science assessment (DC Science).  The DC CAPE assessment https://osse.dc.gov/dccape  is computer-based and matches the high expectations of the Common Core State Standards https://www.thecorestandards.org/read-the-standards/, requiring students to think critically and solve real-world problems. It assesses what your child is learning in school and helps teachers and parents know if students are on track for success in college and careers. Students in grades 3 will take the DC CAPE test.

How to Prepare

Ensuring your students are in school and on time every day helps ensure they receive the most instruction and are prepared for the DC CAPE.

What to Expect

Testing Window: In the 2025-2026 school year, the DC CAPE test will be administered in April and May. Students are not testing every day during this time. The results of the 2026 DC CAPE assessment will be released in the fall of 2026.
